When everyone seems to be distancing themselves from troubled Migori Governor Zachary Okoth Obado, one prominent politician has decided to stand with him.
The embattled county chief is currently cooling off his heels at the Industrial Area GK Prison awaiting the determination of his bail application on Thursday.
Obado has been charged with aiding the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno who was his girlfriend.
When he was arraigned before Justice Jessie Lessit in Milimani High Court on Tuesday, Obado received unlikely guest inside the courtroom.
Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale was there to show solidarity with his 'friend' who has been in custody since his arrest on Friday.
Through his official Twitter account, Khalwale announced he stood with Obado and hoped justice would be served in the case which has attracted a lot of public attention.
"This afternoon at the Milimani High Court I stood with my friend Governor Obado over the vexing question of the murder of Sharon Otieno. Let justice ring in all the villages of Migori and Homa Bay," the Ford-Kenya deputy party leader tweeted.
The post, however, did not go well with some Kenyans such as NARC-Kenya party leader Martha Karua who expressed a contrary opinion.
"I may not be in court, but I stand with the victims family!" said former Gichugu MP.
"There are currently very many unsolved murders in this country. It is good to stand with a friend in times of trials, but it is better to stand for justice for the weak and poor!" posted Duke SKB Onyang'i.
Since his arrest last week, some politicians, including those from his ODM party, have been calling for his impeachment on grounds he is unsuitable to hold office.
