It is a common thing to see people putting on earphones or gigantic headphones on their ears.

Each is often engrossed in their own music world; be it hip-hop, RnB or reggae. These music genres speak a lot about them than can they could know.

Reggae

This music genre is popular with the guys from the ghetto. These guys are loyal to this genre as they are loyal, most of the times, to their muguka/miraa.

They are never reluctant to relieve you of your belongings once in a while. It is the reason reggae concerts are dreaded.

Hip-hop

Just like reggae guys are loyal to their genre, hip-hop listeners have loyalty on another level.

Their playlists are dominated by hip-hop music, and their godfather is Nas.

These people come from well to do families and probably don’t know their mother tongues.

Hip-hop fans are also quite expressive and are not afraid to speak their minds.

Bongo

Before the emergence of Diamond Platnumz, bongo music was basically a preserve of the villagers who were trying to catch up with the hip-hoppers (on village terms, this was their sort of hip-hop).

Still, a vast majority of bongo fans come from the countryside.

Rnb

RnB used to be a genre for lovers, especially music released in the 2000s. Hip-hop has ruined it.

The fans of this genre were kind of romantic, where many of these songs often ended in the 'dedication section' of letters back in the day.

If you listen religiously to Rnb, you probably are trying to be romantic, if you are not already.

Rock and roll

Apart from Elvis Presley, yours truly does not know any other rock singer or band.

If you are a rock fan, then you want to stand out in a world where everyone is trying to fit in.

Jazz

This is a genre for the rich. It is like golf of music.

People who go to jazz festivals probably go to connect and make close business deals.

The tickets to these festivals are quite expensive too.

If you are a fan of jazz, then you belong to a class of your own, altogether. Common people problems don’t faze you.

Local music

Vernacular songs have since been associated with illiteracy. But this isn’t the case.

Fans of vernacular songs are just proud of their roots and are not afraid to show the world.

Also, scholars who have been enlightened know the importance of their cultures and are retreating to it in a world that’s swiftly phasing out indigenous cultures.

Rhumba

This genre is a favourite among old people. It is for the people who have seen it all, and are quietly enjoying the fruits of their labour, if not yet retired.
