The Ford Kenya MP argues that December is the traditional date for the country's general election.

According to the MP, holding general elections in August inconveniences Kenyans.

He argues that conducting the election in August interferes with the country’s learning system, economy and puts pressure on Kenyans.

Wamalwa says that December is the ideal time for Kenyans to vote.

“The Bill proposes that the general election is held in December instead of August as the 2010 constitution provides for,” he said.

Wamalwa is confident that MPs will vote for the Bill once it is tabled in Parliament on Wednesday.

“Over 250 MPs have promised to vote for the Bill to effect the changes,” he said.

The Bill requires 233 votes to sail through.

If Parliament passes the Bill, it will be forwarded to the Senate for debate and voting.

If the Senate endorses the Bill, then it will be forwarded to the President to be signed into law.

However, Kenyans will have to go to a referendum to effect the constitutional changes if the Bill passes and is signed into law.
