The two, Eveline and Maculate, drowned in a pond on Monday where they had gone to wash their beddings.

According to a cousin who was the first at the scene, the two had just arrived at the pond when Eveline went back to the homestead to fetch washing detergent while she left her sister Maculate washing her muddy feet from a basin.

While gone, it is said that the breeze blew a duvet they had come to wash into the middle of the pond.

Maculate who was at the pond immediately went for the duvet without even taking off her clothes.

When her sister Eveline came back, she found her sister drowning as she called for help.

It was at this time that Eveline jumped into the water and attempted to rescue her sister from the deep waters.

Unfortunately, the two drowned and the cousin who had gone to salvage them came too late to find their bodies floating on top of the water.

“Their cousin has gone to help them only to find their bodies floating. She drowned while trying to save her sister. I don’t know how the light wind blew the heavy duvet. I shouldn’t have sent them. How will I explain to their mother?” Lilian Okondo, their granny eulogised.

Sadly, their single mother who was allegedly working as a house-help in Nairobi did not turn up for burial even after receiving the news.

The death left many unanswered questions lingering in the mind of the residents.

Some wondered how the light normal breeze could have blown off the heavy duvet as others shook their heads as to why the incident happened while there was no one else at the ever-busy pond.
