Kenya national women team, Harambee Stars will not play in their second Women's Africa Cup of Nations, after Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) rejected FKF's appeal bid to be reinstated to the 2018 AWCON following a successful appeal by Equatorial Guinea.
Football Kenya Federation filed an appeal to CAS after their appeal was overturned in favour of Equatorial Guinea by CAF Appeals board.
CAF had banned Equatorial Guinea for fielding ineligible player against Kenya's Starlets, something that let FKF to appeal and Kenya replaced Equatorial Guinea on October 18.
On November 7, Equatorial Guinea was reinstated by the CAF appeal board after a successful appeal, prompting Kenya to lodge an appeal to the CAS.
Despite FKF affirming the CAS rejection of its appeal, it stated that its appeal against CAF is still open and that it will seek justice in terms financial recompense.
"We will continue to fight for justice to be done and to repair the harm that has been caused to our Starlets and the Kenyans," read a statement by FKF
The news is a blow to Harambee Starlets, in their bid to play in the World Cup considering that the 2018 AWCON will serve as qualifiers for the World Cup, where best three teams will represent Africa in 2019 Women World Cup, to be hosted in France.
AWCON kicks off Saturday, November 17, in Ghana and the host will play Cameroon at Accra Sports Ground.
