Blame games have eclipsed Kisii Sevens Rugby tournament that failed to impress following poor turnout and subsequent boycott by referees which saw semi finals matches abandoned on Sunday.
The tournament trended for the better part of last week under the Twitter #GusiiSevens but organisers are now under immense pressure to explain why it failed to materialise.
Blogger Vincent Osumo and Dr Fred Matiang'i's close aide Brian Mamboleo accused Youth Affairs Secretary in the office of the DP Mr Antony Kibagendi for allegedly orchestrating the disaster in the tournament.
"The organisers politicised this tournament. They identified themselves as Team Tanga Tanga but they have gotten what they wanted. They think that even sports should be politicised," argued Mr Osumo.
Mr Mamboleo added: "Kibagendi's sole aim was to undermine Dr Matiang'i. He says the minister contributed nothing yet we know that NACADA sponsored the tournament. They politicised it and should therefore take blame.
On Saturday, Mr Mamboleo and Kibagendi confronted each other over the disorganization of the tournament. While Mamboleo accused Kibagendi of poor organisation strategy, the former Kitutu Chache South aspirant accused Matiang'i's camp of frustrating the event.
South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro, a close ally of DP Ruto, denied claims that he'd dragged Matiang'i's name to the shambolic planning of the tournament. It's not clear whether the remaining matches would be played.
For the better part of Sunday, the Gusii stadium remained abandoned with only few players of participating teams seen practising. Mr Kibagendi is Ruto's strategist in both Nyamira and Kisii Counties.
