According to the groups' team leader Dominic Kiptanui, an Automotive Engineer, the Charcoal Briquette Machine is fabricated in a way that it removes carbon in charcoal which is toxic to both the user and the environment.

The raw materials used include sawdust, organic material and soil, which are readily available.

“We carbonize sawdust and other organic materials. We mix it with the soil then add water to allow our machine to bind which then produces Charcoal Briquette,” said Kiptanui during the ongoing EAC Jua Kali/Nguvu Kazi Exhibition at the Eldoret Sports Club where he is one of the exhibitors.

The machine can be operated by 3 people; one feeds it with the raw materials and the two receives the Charcoal Briquette.

Charcoal Briquette is four times effective than the normal charcoal where 4 kilograms of normal charcoal is equivalent to one Kilogram of the Charcoal briquette.

The machine, according to the former Eldoret Polytechnic student has the ability to make 50 bags of 50-kilograms Charcoal Briquette in a day.

“50kg Charcoal Briquette cost Sh1,000," said Kiptanui who revealed that the aim for coming up with the machine was to save Kenyans from the toxic carbon and also to empower youths to get self-employment.

He advised parents against looking down upon technical institutions and polytechnic saying they are the recipe to self-employment.

“I had direct entry to the university but I chose to go to the polytechnic way and I can now use my hands. I have my welding, grinding machine and I can also get small capital after selling this machine. I will not knock on anyone’s door looking for employment,” noted Kiptanui.
