A form three student at Nyabigena High School died on Tuesday after he was allegedly kicked by a senior prefect before succumbing to injuries at Tabaka Mission Hospital, colleague students have claimed.
The bizarre incident angered his classmates who reportedly boycotted food for the better part of Tuesday, insisting that they were ready to testify in court that in deed through student, whose identity could not be established, was killed.
"He had been reading the Bible a few minutes to 7am when the prefect came in. After an altercation, he slapped and kicked him in the stomach and he collapsed," said one of the students.
A section of teachers from the institution condemned the management for allowing prefects to beat students, adding that the habit has exposed many learners to risks.
"Let those responsible be held and questioned on the matter. It is unfair that a student is allowed to discipline other students," one said.
However, county Police Commander Martin Kibet said, "We are aware of the incident and will allow detectives to investigate before making a conclusion on what caused the death."
The deceased is said to have been the only boy and the eldest in the family of four. His mother died few years ago and he has been learning at the mercy of well-wishers.
School principal Mathew Simiyu is yet to issue a statement but detectives from Nyamarambe police station are investigating the matter. The incident has caused havoc in social media from among Kisii and Nyamira residents.
