The body of Sergeant James Meme Kobia was retrieved from a quarry filled with rainwater on Wednesday morning, after drowning alongside his two sons on Tuesday.

He reportedly met his death while attempting to save his sons who were swimming in a marram excavation quarry when they slipped and fell into a 30 feet quarry.

The quarry was also full of rainwater.

The incident occurred at Barrack Grounds, 12 Engineers Thika Barracks.

According to Thika Town Today, the accident occurred at around 5pm as was reported at the Makongeni Police Station.

The three bodies were retrieved after a whole night of searching by the Disaster Response Unit.

The KDF officer is said to have come to the rescue of his sons when he heard of the incident, but his attempt to use a tyre to save them was unsuccessful as he ended up drowning too.

The boys, Joseph Githinji and Vincent Machui were aged 11 and 7 respectively.
