Forget about women seducing girls to marry their dead sons in Ukambani, Maambo will shock you.

Maambo is among the cultural practices that have left many tongues wagging from Machakos to Makueni and Makueni to Kitui counties.

So, what does Maambo involve? Well, this is an amicable way of solving issues.

For instance, when one is accused of murder, elders come together and agree on the penalty you will pay.

It is usually in form of livestock in most cases.

In an interesting twist of events, a family of a man killed over a Sh50 row in Makueni County agreed to receive 14 cows in 2023.

The family of the late Sila Mutua will receive the said number of animals as atonement following the incident.

Sila died after he was attacked by a client on a chilly Sunday evening in June.

The family will, however, wait until 2023 before it receives the animals.

Residents who are unfamiliar with Kamba traditional justice system, Maambo, have continued to elicit mixed reactions following the agreement.

A meeting by elders of Aambua clan at the weekend said there are many pending cases.

“Elders told us to wait until 2023 for our matter to be sorted,” said Sila's, late Silu Mutua's father.

He disclosed that the elders said there are four other murder cases lined up.

Sila died after an agreement with one Musyoka Kituku hit a dead end before he was killed.

The deceased had agreed to repair Musyoka’s school bag after receiving a down payment of Sh50.

Musyoka was not happy when he came back several hours only to find the bag still torn.

Musyoka descended on the deceased with blows only for him to die.
