Former Jubilee Party Vice Chairman David Murathe has lauded opposition chief Raila Odinga for accepting to work with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Murathe claimed that before the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader made the peace deal with Uhuru, the president had been 'held hostage' by MPs allied to Deputy President William Ruto.
Murathe claimed that MPs loyal to the DP would blackmail the Head of State by threatening to shut down government agenda in the National Assembly.
“In terms of Parliament, there was some alignment which was making it possible for the DP’s side to blackmail the president. Like if you don’t do this, we won’t pass this. It was like they were holding a gun to his head until Raila came," he said.
Uhuru and Raila have been working together after they ended their political hostility on March 9, 2018, through the famous handshake.
Murathe noted that the DP's side can longer blackmail the president after Uhuru got the support of MPs allied to ODM as well as those of Kalonzo Musyoka's Wiper, Musalia Mudavadi's ANC and KANU which is led by Baringo Senator Gideon Moi.
“So when Raila came in with his numbers, Kalonzo came in, Gideon was already in and Mudavadi also came in. It is no longer possible for them to hold a gun over a matter to be prosecuted in the House,” he said.
Murathe spoke during an exclusive interview with KTN News on Wednesday night.
