For some minutes at Milimani Law Courts, prime suspect in Monica Kimani's murder Mr. Joseph Irungu, could not control his tears.
With the court room filled to capacity, Irungu struggled to contain his tears when his mother approached him.
The two hugged as Jacque Maribe, his fiance, watched from a distance and other onlookers in court.
After the brief hugging, the other retreated, leaving her estranged sobbing like a child who'd taken an injection.
Mr. Irungu has been linked to Monica's death with DCI George Kinoti insisting that detectives have gathered enough information to have him jained.
Evidence gathered from the crime scene including dusting of furniture and the glass wine indicates that Mr. Irungu was present at the murder scene.
Also, police are carrying out DNA samples to establish the biological identity of the killer, in a murder probe that has dominated Kenyan media.
Ms. Maribe and Irungu will return to court on Wednesday and will face Justice James Wakiaga after Lady Justice Jessie Lessit quit from the case.
