The Kisii county government is looking into introducing a culture day that will be celebrated every year to remember the Gusii culture. Speaking during a cultural ceremony organized by the county government, Kisii county governor James Ongwae said he is looking forward to having that event done annually.
"This is a historical event that has brought cultural stakeholders together for the first time. I have directed my officers in the Department of Culture to sustain a conversation with other stakeholders so that this becomes an annual event."
"I was pleased with the activities lined up for this event. The exhibitions and traditional foods on offer remind us of our cultural practices and processes such as Ekeigoroigoro, which was administered during the initiation of the young into adulthood with a lot of rituals."
The ceremony was organized in a bid to bring together various cultural practices that have been in the past Kisii culture but are fading away.
If the county succeeds in making it an annual event then the community is likely to be witnessing the Gusii cultural practices that have been swallowed by modernization which the current generation don't have any clue about.
