1. An eight-storey building that was under construction collapsed on Friday morning in Malindi, KilifI County.
2. The structure collapsed on Gapco petrol station which is next to Wananchi Bar and Kenya Institute of Management.
3. Reports say one person died following the incident while 15 others were left injured.
4. Even though the structure was still under construction, eyewitness said some people were living in lower floors.
5. According to Kilifi County police boss Fredrick Ochieng, rescue teams already arrived at the scene, searching cautiously for two people who could be heard calling for help. He said the rescue operation could be slow keeping in mind that there was petrol and gas cylinders at the petrol station.
6. The rescue teams comprises of officers from the Kenya Defence Forces, the National Police Service, Kenya Red Cross and Kilifi County fire brigade.
7. Kilifi County Health CeC Anisa Omar, confirmed the incident, saying survivors had been rushed to Malindi Sub County Hospital for medication.
