Kitui East MP Nimrod Mbai has hit out at the people linking Deputy President William Ruto to graft scandals.
Mbai said it is wrong for some politicians and individuals to link the DP to graft without evidence.
Speaking to journalists in Kitui town on Tuesday, the legislator said Ruto’s name is being maligned by his political rivals.
“It is shameful that some people who are known to be against the Deputy President are now using corruption to fight him,” Mbai said.
The MP said Ruto has neither been named nor linked to any graft by the investigating agencies.
Mbai said those mentioning Ruto's name are doing so for political mileage.
“We know people who are against the DP and who want to scuttle his 2022 presidential ambition,” the Jubilee MP said.
He asked Ruto's critics to wait for 2022 for the real battle instead of using his name for political gain.
The MP said maligning the DP’s name will not guarantee his rivals votes in 2022.
A section of politicians allied to Ruto is accusing the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and other state agencies of targeting the DP on the war against graft.
The politicians majority from Rift Valley region claim that there is plot to block DP Ruto’s 2022 presidential ambition in the name of corruption.
On Tuesday, President Uhuru Kenyatta asked politicians to stop debating graft issues in funerals.
The President who spoke when he opened the 6th Devolution Conference in Kirinyaga County vowed to step up the war against graft.
He said the fight against corruption will be extended to the counties.
