Mwingi Central MP Gideon Mutemi Mulyungi has been accused of landing his brother in trouble.
The MPs brother, Joseph Mwangangi Mulyungi was on Wednesday arraigned in a Mwingi court for allegedly stealing three cheques valued at Sh.18, 000.
There was drama at the court when Mwingi Senior Principal Magistrate Kibet Sambu appeared to deliver the ruling. The sisters of the lawmaker wailed as the case proceeded.
The MP’s brother was sent to Waita GK Prison awaiting formal sentencing as different parties continue to elicit mixed reactions over the case. The family now claims that the MP duped the brother to admit to charges leveled against him only to land in jail.
The lawmaker is said not to be in good terms with the rest of the family.Dr. Mulyungi has vehemently dismissed the claims leveled against him. He has insisted that he is not shaken by the allegations since he has faced them before.
The father of the MP has faulted the lawmaker for being behind his fathers. He said that the brother doesn’t work at the CDF offices, adding that he has never stolen anything before.
"The arrest of my son (Joseph) was instigated by his elder brother. He doesn't work at the CDF office," said the father.
All the family members have different accounts of the story.
