Khalwale who was addressing sugarcane farmers in Matawa village in Mumias West constituency on Saturday said their quest to force former Mumias Sugar Company Managing Director Dr Evans Kidero to release money he claims was stolen from the sugar miller were met by stiff resistance from people who he claims were hired by Kidero.

"We asked him about this issue last year. He came and locked me, Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa, Mohamed Omollo (former rugby star) and Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali in a latrine because we asked him about the money," Khalwale said amid applause.

The former Ikolomani MP, however, did not disclose the exact location of the latrine they were locked up in. He also did not reveal how long they were detained.

Khalwale is among leaders from the former Western province who have been pushing for the prosecution of Kidero who he accuses of playing a pivotal role in grounding Kenya's largest sugar miller.

Kidero, before he joined politics and became Nairobi governor was Managing Director at Mumias Sugar Company and his name has widely been mentioned in connection to the collapse of the sugar factory.
