A 70-year-old woman is in agony after her young brother kicked her out of her parental home demanding that she looks for a man to marry her.
The incident happened in Ibate village, Nyabioroba in Marani, Kisii County.
Villagers said Jane Nyabonyi has been loitering at Marani shopping center after she was chased from home.
"Nyabonyi has been moving from place to place begging for food since her young brother kicked her out of their home. She was told to look for a husband to marry her at her old age," said Ezra Ombongi.
According to Ombongi, Nyabonyi has been living in her elder brother's house who died 10 years ago.
"She has never been married but, since their mother died her young brother doesn't want to see her at the homestead. He wants to inherit his late brother's piece of land, house, and cattle," he stated.
Area assistant chief Evans Maangu said the matter was reported to his office by villagers.
"I have scheduled for a public baraza where the old woman's case will be discussed. She has every right to stay at her parent's home," he assured.
Maangu warned men against warning women saying everyone has a right to inherit their parents' property.
