The showdown in Jubilee party could now turn from bad to worse following President Uhuru Kenyatta's dress down on Sunday aimed at rebels.

At Kasarani Stadium, a furious Uhuru seemed to direct his anger to a section of MPs allied to DP William Ruto, accusing them of persistent politicking and disrespect.

“These thugs that we elected are busy politicking. They should not think I am their boy, they will not stop me from constructing roads. They didn’t look for votes on my behalf. I went looking for my votes. These rubbish should stop bothering me,” said Kenyatta as quoted by the Citizen Digital.

But speaking separately on Monday, the MPs have rubbished President Uhuru Kenyatta, with some accusing him of failing to take charge in Jubilee party.

“He is the party leader and has mechanisms to deal with rebels. He (Uhuru) should be answering questions for leaving us to go work with opposition,” said Patrick Munene of Chuka Igamba-Ngombe.

Tharaka MP George Murugara, though moderate in his language, said the tirade was unwarranted but vowed to continue drumming support for Ruto.

"We chose to support the DP and we should not be vilified for it. Only individual MPs can change this," said Murugara, also a first term MP.

Kimani Ngunjiri of Bahati  demanded to know why Uhuru felt bad when MPs host Deputy President William Ruto. He asked Uhuru to call for a Jubilee PG to avoid further fallout.

“He should not be angry. He should not address us through the press. Instead he should call us and have dialogue on our issues,” said Ngunjiri.

Naivasha MP Jayne Kihara said the President’s outburst was confusing and challenged him to clarify whether hosting his deputy was offensive.

“If hosting the DP is the mistake, he needs to tell us,” said Kihara.
