ODM party leader Raila Odinga tickled his supporters and dignitaries during the launch of the Universal Health Care in Kisumu led by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Raila took his supporters down memory lane to the pre-independence era when his father Jaramogi Oginga Odinga refused to take power until Uhuru’s father, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta is released from Prison.
In a classic replay of Kenya’s political dominance by the Kenyatta-Odinga families, Raila said his father Jaramogi and Mzee Kenyatta were together and united Kenyans against the white man in 1961.
“1961 kulikuwa na mkutano muhimu hivi hapa Kisumu (In 1961 we had a meeting like this here),” Raila said.
The NASA co-principal narrated how leaders converged in Kisumu to fight for the release of Mzee Kenyatta who was being held at Maralal.
He said his father led the push to have Kenyatta released making Jaramogi sing in parliament.
In this video, you can listen to Raila demonstrate how his father sang in parliament at 5:30 minutes.
Dignitaries were also left in stitches when Raila said Uhuru was a still ‘in the stomach being made’ when the push for Kenyatta’s release was ongoing.
President Uhuru launched the pilot phase of the Universal Health Coverage Program in Mamboleo.
The program is being implemented in Kisumu, Nyeri, Isiolo and Machakos counties before being rolled out in the other 43 counties.
To benefit from the program one needs to register in the said counties and issued with a UHC card which will enable one free health services within that county.
The pilot program will go for six months before the government launches the program to the other 43 counties.
