Bungoma County Senator Moses Wetangula has appealed to the national government to offer help to troubled Olympics Champion Asbel Kiprop.
Wetangula says that Kiprop is one of Kenyans great athletes and needs counselling.
On Tuesday, the Senator tweeted saying, "Asbel Kiprop is one of our great athletes. He had been accused of and suspended for alleged doping. He has a right to appeal and needs help from Gok and IAAF"
Wetangula in his tweet added, "He needs counselling. Our young athletes must be protected from exploitation by greedy agents."
The 1500m Olympic champion has been going through hard times after he was found guilty of doping.
The athlete has also been hitting headlines for months after he was allegedly involved in a sex scandal.
Kiprop was handed a four-year ban by the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) Disciplinary Tribunal.
He was suspended in May 2018 by IAAF's Athlete's Integrity Unit after testing positive to blood-boosting Erythropoietin (EPO).
The 2008 Beijing Olympics champion declined the results alleging that his samples had been tampered with.
The 29-year-old has a right to appeal the IAAF's four-year ban.
Last week, the troubled athlete sent panic among his family and fans after he threatened to mess up with his firearm.
In a Facebook post, Kiprop asked the National Police Service to relieve him of his duties.
The athlete also directed IAAF to collect his medals, saying that he no longer needs them.
"I pray to National Police Service to dismiss me NOW. Before I use their machinery to earn myself justice. Kindly IAAF come to take your medals. I don't need any on my house wall," he posted.
