Kisumu County Woman Representative Rosa Akinyi Buyu will on Saturday July 07, 2018 officially launch the 2018 Buyu National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) tournament that will feature a massive 280 teams.
The launch will be held at the Karanda Primary School in Nyando Sub County.
According to Evans Okoth Osula, a Youth Program Officer in the office of the Kisumu County Woman Representative, the tournament is targeting young, talented, and unexposed players.
“This tournament will run for two months; from July to August this year. Our target is young and talented players with an aim of exposing them to teams featuring in various leagues such as the Kenya Premier League and the National Super League,” said Osula.
The 280 teams got a go ahead to feature in the tournament after pre-qualifier matches were played and 95 teams eliminated.
Each ward has 8 teams, while Kisumu County has a total of 35 wards.
After the official launch, the tournament will kick off proper at the wards levels on July 14.
Top two teams from each ward will qualify for the Sub County level.The Sub County games will produce 14 teams which will now feature in the knockout, quarters, semis and the final phase of the tournament on August 25th and 26th at the Jomo Kenyatta Sports ground.
Overall winners will be awarded gold medals, a troph, and Sh70, 000 reward.
All the 280 teams are male, however, two female teams will play one game during the launch, and another curtain raiser game before the final.
