A section of Abagusii leaders now want the Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua to pick Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i as his running mate in 2022.
The legislators led by Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama, Nyamira Senator Okong'o Omogeni, Nakuru Town West Samwel Arama and Kisii Senator Sam Ongeri on Monday said that Mutua should consider having Matiang'i as his deputy since Kenya does not need to be ruled by two tribes.
"We are asking you to have Matiang'i in your 2022 candidature, and we promise to walk with you in this journey," Ongeri said.
"I know that through inviting you here, it epitomizes unity across all tribes as Gusii people have promised to work with you in your next task," Nyamira Senator added.
Mutua had been invited for a funds drive for the construction of a school hall at Tindereti Primary School in Borabu.
Mutua promised to walk with Matiang'i in his quest for the top seat. He added that he is the best bet since he has no political debt to pay.
The Machakos Governor who has expressed his interest in vying for the presidency said that he is a unifying factor among Kenyans.
