The attackers armed with AK 47 rifles ambushed the bus belonging to  ‘Kilas’ company between Ijara and Sangailu towns, few kilometers to Hulugho.

The militants who emerged from the bush directed the bus driver to stop and allegedly ordered the passengers to produce their IDs and recite the Muslim ‘Shahada’.

The Nation reports that the suspected militants then identified three non-Muslims who they asked to recite the Shahada again.

According to an eye witnesses, only one out of the three men recited the Shahada and was set free.

“There were three non-locals who were ordered to recite the Shahada and only one managed to recite,” a witness told the Nation.

The gunmen allegedly handcuffed the two men (a mechanic and casual laborer) before executing them.

The suspected militants then disappeared into the bush as remaining passengers called for help from security.

Confirming the Friday 11 AM incident, North Eastern Regional Coordinator Mohamed Birik said that security forces are hunting for the militants.

Biriki says that security personnel have launched ground and aerial operations targeted at the suspected Al-shabaab militants.

North Eastern and especially Garissa and Mandera has witnessed instances of terror-related attacks in the recent years, causing the government to deploy more security personnel.

The militants are suspected to be crossing from the neighboring Somalia to stage attacks in Kenya.

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government has vowed to deal with the terrorism issue.
