Members of County Assembly have unanimously voted in support of the motion targeting to ouster Deputy Speaker Duke Omoti on grounds of misuse of power and abuse of office.
On Wednesday morning, ODM party, through lawyer Tony Moturi, wrote to nominated MCA Abel Mokaya and advised against tabling the motion but by the time of going to press, Omoti was giving his last speech as Deputy Speaker as MCAs ganged against him.
"pursuant to our tele-conversation this morning and having consulted the party leadership, you are hereby advised to withdraw the said motion and allow the party to convene an urgent meeting of our MCAs.
"The meeting will ventilate the issues you have raised against the Deputy Speaker. Kindly treat this as the official position of the party," read the message from Moturi to Mr. Mokaya.
But the communication could not save the Deputy Speaker as MCAs stood ground accusing him of misusing his powers, which was donated by majority of ODM members in the assembly.
Nominated MCA Carol Mogere said efforts to save the Kiabonyoru MCA from ouster hit a snag even as Majority Leader Duke Masira tried to whip members against supporting the motion.
Of the 33 MCAs who participated in the stormy voting on Wednesday morning, only six voted in Omoti's favour in a move that is likely to take a legal storm following ODM's position.
This means that his removal, since the motion was processed through the right channels, would pave way for appointment of new deputy who will work with speaker Moffat Teya.
