Unlike in the past, the office of Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i is usually busy and rarely goes without receiving MPs from Gusii region, a senior officer has intimated.

In the past, MPs preferred to visit DP William Ruto's Karen home to lobby for projects and at times, critics argue, to solicit for handouts.

But since the enactment of Presidential Order of 2019, president Uhuru Kenyatta seemed to have transferred powers from DP Ruto to Matiang'i who now chairs powerful National Development and Communication Cabinet Committee.

"To be truthful, the office receives many guests daily and the minister is ever busy. I have seen many MPs including those from Gusii pitching tent at Harambee House than in the past.

"The minister attends to all and at times he's forced to work past time. Everyday you'll also find him in office ahead of everyone. The office is busy that usual," said the officer, who spoke in confidence.

With many MPs from Gusii now rallying behind Matiang'i, most of them have reduced their trips to Karen with some now vowing to work with Matiang'i.

Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama, a former staunch supporter of Ruto, says Matiang'i stands a chance of succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta.

"Despite our stand, I have never doubted his competence. I am sure he can do a good job. He is a performer," said Mr Arama, who hails from Nyamira.

In the midst of many stalled projects, many launched by DP Ruto according to former Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire, Matiang'i will host Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday in Kisii and Nyamira.
