Certain drugs affect your periods by worsening them.

Have you ever asked yourself why your periods are longer or heavier than before? Among the reasons is that you are using some drugs that have detrimental effects.

Traci C. Johnson, MD, obstetrics and gynaecologist as quoted on webmd, highlights the drugs that inflict your periods;

1. Epilepsy medications

Drugs used by women who have epilepsy often experience irregular periods or sometimes miss their periods. In some scenarios, these drugs make your periods to be longer. If you have been experiencing such conditions, talk to your doctor and he or she will advise you on what to do.

 2. Antidepressants

These agents fend off depression. Nevertheless, women who take them more often are at risk of getting heavy and irregular periods. These drugs also bring about painful cramps. If possible, steer clear of them.

 3. Chemotherapy drugs

They have side effects when it comes to periods. They are believed to cause more periods disorders including muscle cramps.

 4. Thyroid medication

This treatment can throw your periods out of whack and make them worse. Drugs used in the treatment cause changes in your periods. You should first talk to your doctor before using them.
