In the run-up to the 2013 general election, Gathoni Wa Muchomba, now Kiambu Woman Representative, would be recalled back to Kameme FM to help bolster the station's listenership.

This was a critical moment considering SK Macharia, the owner of Inooro FM which is Kameme FM's main rival, had made it clear that he and his entire media empire would rally behind then CORD presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

Kameme FM which is associated with President Uhuru Kenyatta's family, therefore, needed to be strengthened enough to counter Inooro FM's pro-Raila messages in Central Kenya.

As a result, Wa Muchomba was paired with Njogu Wa Njoroge to host Kameme FM's political breakfast show 'Arahuka'.

However, the apparent battle of egos between the then two Kikuyu radio bigwigs would see their on-air marriage collapse as soon as it started.

But why would things go that way yet many may have perceived this as a formidable radio chemistry perhaps second to none?

Well, history may be blamed for the collapse of this short-lived union. Wa Muchomba and Njogu had during their career peaks worked as direct competitors and foes.

Between 2003 and 2006 Wa Muchomba was hosting Inooro FM's breakfast show 'Hagaria' while Njogu was steering Kameme FM's breakfast show 'Arahuka'.

After Wa Muchomba left Inooro FM in late 2006, Njogu would decamp to Inooro FM and take over Wa Muchomba's show between years 2007 and 2010. Njogu would in mid-2010 return to Kameme FM and take over his former show 'Arahuka'.

During Wa Muchomba's on-air absence between years 2007 and 2013, Njogu built his radio profile becoming the de facto 'King of Kikuyu morning Radio'.

Wa Muchomba, on the other hand, had left Inooro FM with very high ratings that had even earned her the title, 'Queen of Kikuyu Radio Politics'.

However, when she returned on air in 2013, her popularity had already nosedived and she was no match for Njogu. Nevertheless, she didn't seem to realise this.

The result of pairing the two was chaotic as they competed over the microphone which brought out a horrible, terrible chemistry that perhaps even Kameme FM management got ashamed of. President Trump would perhaps put it that way.

Finally Njogu won the day as Gathoni retreated back opting to start a new Saturday morning show 'Muiguithania' which later became insanely popular.
