The body of the 2015 World 400 meters hurdles Champion Nicholas Bett was on Wednesday moved from the Eldoret Hospital Mortuary for burial scheduled for Thursday at his Simat home in Kapseret Constituency, Uasin Gishu County.
Hundreds of friends, relatives, fellow athletes and police officers converged at the hospital to pay their last respect to the deceased.
Among those who paid their last respect for Bett in Eldoret include Kapsaret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi, former World 1,500m champion Asbel Kiprop, former World Javelin Champion Julius Yego, Olympic Marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge among others.
Thousands of locals also lined up along Uganda Road in Eldoret town and the Eldoret-Kapsabet road where a vehicle carrying Bett's body passed on its way to Simat.
He died last Wednesday in a tragic road accident along the Eldoret-Kapsabet road while heading back home, two days after returning from representing Kenya in the African Championships that were held in Nigeria.
Before his death, Bett also served as a police officer at Kondele police station, Kisumu County.
Deputy President William Ruto, Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago, and other top government officials and Athletics Kenya officials are expected to attend the burial ceremony.
