Residents of Taracha village in Nyaribari Chache, Kisii County were left in shock after a body of a mad woman was found dumped in a culvert Wednesday morning.
Locals said the deceased, Elizabeth Nyanchoka has been suffering from mental illness for the last three years after she returned from Nairobi where she was working as a house help.
Robert Makori, a resident of the village said Nyanchoka has been loitering around the village and returns home in the village.
However, on Tuesday, she failed to go back home as is the norm only to be found dead on Wednesday morning.
"Mokeira has been loitering collecting garbage on the road after falling ill mentally three years ago. She didn't return home on Tuesday night prompting family members to search for her the whole night only for her lifeless body to be found today, Wednesday morning dumped in a culvert 2 kilometers from her home," Makori stated.
Nyanchoka's brother, Eric Osoro, her late sister was mentally ill and she has been in and out of the hospital for the last three years.
Area chief Simon Ayienda confirmed the incident and said passers-by who recovered the body informed him.
"I was informed by passers-by who spotted her body in the culvert. I informed Keumbu police officers who arrived at the scene and collected the body and took it to Kisii Teaching and Referral hospital morgue," he said.
Ayienda said the deceased was bleeding from her private parts, an indication that she was raped before she was killed and her body dumped in the culvert.
"Investigations have already commenced. Members of the public should report to authorities anyone they suspect might have abducted the deceased, raped her and dumped her body in the culvert," he noted.
