An angry matatu operator attacked and injured a customer over Sh80 on Sunday at Nyamira main bus stop.
Peter Ombati said the customer identified as Zipporah refused to pay Sh80 fare from Geteri area to Nyamira town.
"She refused to pay me Sh80 on grounds that I was overcharging her. I beat her up because I could not control my temper after she insulted me and called me a poor church mouse," he said.
Mr. Ombati said he can't regret his actions because even the government has hiked fuel prices.
He said people travelling to various parts should adjust their budget over escalating fuel prices.
"I am not Uhuru Kenyatta to carry passengers for free. Anyone who wants to pay less should go and ask him to drop down fuel prices," he added.
The stage manager, Protus Ongeri said members of the public rescued the woman from the thorough beating.
"APassengers should be ready to pay fares as asked by conductors to avoid unnecessary beatings," he said.
