Speaking at Gesiaga SDA Secondary School in Nyamira County on Friday during a fundraiser, Matiang'i claimed that contraceptive dealers are behind the push for the reduction of the consent age to 16.

He noted that the dealers want the age reduced so that they can take advantage of the same.

Matiang'i said cases of rogue businessmen selling medication have been rampant, and they want to capitalize on the development to make a lot of money from the same.

The CS divulged that he will form a task-force to probe the matter with immediate effect.

"If we investigate this issue of allowing our adolescent children to engage in sexual relations, we can easily find that those behind it are people who want to do the business of selling contraceptives and promoting illegal activities like abortion," said Matiang'i as quoted by Standard.

On his part, Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama said that he doesn’t support the whole idea.
