Senator Susan Kihika kicked off her role as global Women Parliamentarians President on Monday.
She made her maiden remarks as the President.
The Nakuru Senator who ascended to the global seat at the end of last week joins Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka and National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi in the Executive Committee (ExCo) of the IPU.
The 139th Assembly of the IPU’s umbrella theme is Science, Technology and Innovation.
During her speech at the opening ceremony, of the 139th Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland, Senator Kihika called on the parliamentarians to adapt to change and ensure technological progress impacts positively on women and girls.
The Senator also impressed upon her international colleagues on the importance of ensuring women and girls thrive in the technology sector as creators, developers, and decision-makers.
Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka congratulated Senator Kihika on her achievement.
“With Senator Kihika in the Presidency of the Women’s Forum, and joining Speaker Muturi and myself in the Executive Committee, Kenya’s parliamentary diplomatic positioning is not only strong but also enviable,” said Lusaka.
Lusaka is the head of the Kenyan delegation at the 139th assembly and led at the opening ceremony where Kihika made her maiden speech.
Kihika said a parliamentary diplomacy is an alternative form of diplomacy that is increasing in popularity by supplementing traditional diplomacy.
