Deputy President William Ruto is not leaving anything to chance in his bid to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in the upcoming 2022 general elections.
Despite the rebellion and political hurdles against him, DP Ruto has remained focus on his dream even as his allies push for his presidency.
For DP Ruto to be president in 2022, he will need the support of almost all the regions in the country.
While he is somehow assured of massive support in some regions like Rift Valley, there are others that are likely to give him sleepless nights as he strategies on wooing their support.
1. Ukambani
DP Ruto is likely to struggle to get votes in Ukambani because the region is considered an opposition stronghold.
Despite having political networks in Ukambani it is unlikely that Kambas will back his 2022 bid.
However, the Kamba community can easily vote for him (DP Ruto) if he partners with Kalonzo Musyoka or Dr Alfred Mutua who has also declared interest in vying for president in 2022.
2. Nairobi
DP Ruto is likely to struggle in Nairobi because it is a cosmopolitan region.
All major political outfits enjoy massive support in Nairobi and this could deny Ruto the numbers needed to be president.
3. Mt Kenya
Despite having an assurance that the Mt Kenya region will back his 2022 bid, DP Ruto is likely to struggle to get votes in the region.
Already, Mt Kenya leaders are divided on whether to support the DP's presidential ambition or not.
4. Western
The Deputy President could struggle marketing his ambition in the Western region owing to the fact that the region has strong links with opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Despite a section of Luhya leaders rebelling against Raila, it is expected that the region will still dance to the opposition chief's political tune in 2022.
