The family of Samuel Okeng'o, the teen who joined form 1 at Shimo la Tewa high school from South Mugirango in Kisii county unaccompanied is overwhelmed with joy as they learnt that boy had gotten well-wishers who helped in offsetting his school fees.
However, they are worried about Samwel's follower brother who scored 313 marks but has opted to repeat STD 8 due to lack of money.
Ester Biyaki, Samwel Okeng'os grandmother couldn't hide her joy on learning that Central Organisation of Trade Union (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli had pledged to cater for the education of her grandson.
Milkah Kerubo, Samwel's aunt also appealed for well-wishers to aid in educating Samwel's follower brother Boaz who we found had relocated to stay with his aunt in Kitutu Chache South to repeat class 8 due to the poverty at their home.
Boaz also did his KCPE last year and became second best in the same school Mesaria primary school in South Mugirango Kisii County, with 313 marks. Boaz opted to repeat SDT 8 again because the family can't manage to educate him.
Area MCA Evans Mokoro, who was going somewhere also asked for well-wishers to chip in and help the needy family.
"As Samwel had gone to Mombasa and got well-wishers, there's a brother who was following him they did their KCPE, they led with Samwel who got 313 marks followed by his brother, who has repeated std 8 and who needs to be helped to accomplish his dreams," said the MCA.
The boy who aspires to be an engineer had narrated how his grandmother had sold her only cow and gave him some transport money.
This comes a week after the education ministry launched a campaign to trace 130,000 students yet to join form 1.
NEMIS statistics indicated that the ministry had realized an 87 percent Form One reporting rate. Some 33 counties have already recorded a transition rate above 80 percent.
