Speaker Moffat Teya narrowly survived beating by irrate locals as a county dialogue forum at Viongozi Center came to a premature end on Friday.
Security officers attached to Mr. Teya hurriedly whisked him to his official vehicle, at some moment, cocking their guns to scare locals.
Trouble started when Mr. Teya, a first time speaker was tasked to explain the company behind controversial Sh379 million assembly block, which moderator Sorobi Moturi insisted that belonged to him.
But Mr. Teya denied owning a company, adding that he did not know even the directors of the company that won the multimillion tender.
Sensing bias in the interview, a section of MCAs allied to the speaker besieged him and accused the moderators of being a gun for hire.
Irked by MCAs conduct, locals started throwing chairs indiscriminately, prompting security team to whisk away the county boss to safety.
The back windscreen of the speaker's car was smashed as security forces tried to restore order.
At least seven cabinet ministers who had graced the occasion also scampered for safety as the Egesa FM dialogue forum came to a premature end.
A section of locals have blamed estranged former deputy speaker Duke Omoti of planning chaos to embarass his boss.
