Waiguru alongside Charity Ngilu (Kitui) and Joyce Laboso (Bomet) went to the country’s history books as the first females to clinch the top county seats.

The Kirinyaga governor won the seat despite a cloud of corruption allegations that had surrounded her over the NYS I case.

As Waiguru serves her first term in office, she is expected to seek re-election in the 2022 polls. However, it will not be rosy for her as she is likely to face tough competition from top politicians who are said to be eyeing the seat.

Here are politicians likely to give Waiguru a run for her money in the 2022 election;

Purity Wangui Ngirici

The flamboyant Kirinyaga Woman Representative is a force to reckon with in Kirinyaga politics.

Ngirici is Waiguru's political rival and the two have several times confronted each other on political issues.

The Kirinyaga Woman Rep is a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto and is said to be eyeing to unseat Waiguru in 2022.

Waiguru equally enjoys close ties with DP Ruto and there is speculation that she (Waiguru) could be picked to deputize Ruto if Mt Kenya agrees to support him (Ruto) in 2022.

Charles Kibiru

The Kirinyaga senator is likely to contest for the gubernatorial election in 2022. In the 2017 general election, Kabiru won the senatorial seat as an independent candidate.

Peter Ndambiri

He is the Kirinyaga deputy governor and is said to be eyeing to unseat her boss in the 2022 polls.

Martha Karua

The former Gichugu MP unsuccessfully vied for the Kirinyaga governor seat in the 2017 general election.

She lost to Waiguru and unsuccessfully petitioned her win in High Court, Court of Appeal and even Supreme Court.

Karua has been quoted saying that her ambition to be Kirinyaga governor is still alive.

It is a matter of wait and see if these politicians will seek to unseat governor Waiguru in 2022 general election.
