The Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH) has launched state of the earth facilities which were officially opened by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Hon James Ongwae Kisii County Governor during the presidential visit to Kisii County.
The facilities include a funeral parlour capacity of 100 people to seat and pray for their departed loved ones, a Champlain, Medical Waste disposal plant Microwave, 250-bed capacity male ward and a hostel block for coming doctors.
According to the Governor, the Kisii Medical School will be started in September and this will bring professors and lectures in medicine hence having a good hospital with enough specialists.
The hospital has also been equipped with 500,000 liters of underground tanks for treated water which can be taken on site. They have acquired approval from the National Government to set up a Cancer treating Center and were given Sh 2.25 billion by the Arab Bank and National Government.
This is good news for cancer patients from Kisii region, since when the center is complete they won’t have to travel far for treatment all they need will be at KTRH.
The Governor and his team has also advertised for a new mother and child health facility and is going to be constructed soon. They have already identified the site and the contractor is being identified and the facility will contain over 100-bed capacity.
“When I came here they were only two specialists and they were administrator specialists, now I have employed 26 specialists in various medical specialization...” the Governor spoke during the launching.
This all goodies are a relief for Kisii county people because health care is a basic commodity.
