Deputy President William Ruto will not put much of his efforts in populous Mt Kenya region, a close aide has revealed.
Instead, Ruto will shift his attention to swing regions and areas perceived to be opposition strongholds to increase his votes basket.
"We have a strategy and the main move will be concentrating on our strongholds and regions that voted for opposition and those that appear swing.
"When you see signs of being unwelcome, you don't force yourself. You will see minimal trips to the mountain and that is an assurance," said the source in conference.
A fortnight ago, President Uhuru Kenyatta visited his Nyeri backyard and hinted a possibility of backing a "shocking candidate", statements which have since created jitters among Ruto's camp.
On Monday, Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua insisted that Ruto is not a suitable candidate for State House race, sentiments which further makes Ruto's camp to be uncomfortable.
"I have not endorsed him and I'll not do. He's the lest qualified for the seat and I am sure he won't make it," she said.
While visiting Rift Valley in October, Uhuru stated clear off succession battles despite pressure from a section of Rift Valley leaders who wanted him to endorse Ruto.
For the second week in a row, Ruto will on Saturday return to Nyanza, Kisii, a region that overwhelmingly voted for Mr Odinga in 2013 and 2017 elections.
