Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has said she has no plans of contesting for the presidential seat in 2022 as speculated on social media.
Ngilu said those spreading the claims want to divert her development agenda.
“I have not declared an interest in vying for the presidency in 2022 as some people are writing on blogs,” Ngilu said.
She spoke in Kitui South Sub-county on Friday.
Ngilu said she is focused on actualizing the development pledges she made to the locals during her political campaigns in 2017.
She said her political nemesis use every trick to frustrate her development agenda.
Ngilu asked the locals to ignore what she termed as propaganda and instead support her development agenda.
She said she will not allow herself to be dragged into 2022 succession politics.
Ngilu also denied claims of frustrating Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka's 2022 presidential bid.
She said Kalonzo is free to contest in 2022, stating that no one is against his bid.
Ngilu said some politicians are out to cause rifts between Kalonzo and herself.
The Kitui governor alongside her counterparts Alfred Mutua (Machakos) and Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) recently formed the Peoples Empowerment Movement (PEM) to champion development in Ukambani region.
The trio has, however, received criticism with a section of Kamba politicians accusing them of undermining Kalonzo.
