The Deputy President William Ruto was born on 21st December 1966 in Uasin Gishu County.
He was a member of the ruling party, KANU and later its Secretary General. Ruto was also a Member of Parliament for Eldoret North Constituency between 1997 and 2013.
This is after defeating Reuben Chesire in the 1997 General Elections to become a first-time MP.
In 1998, he was appointed Assistant Minister of Finance by president Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi.
Four years later, he was promoted to be the Minister of Home Affairs. He left KANU and join ODM before the 2007 elections.
After the 2007 General Elections, Ruto was named amongst the team who went to International Criminal Court in Holland facing charges relating to crimes against humanity.
Before 2013 election, he formed the United Republican Party which saw him work with Uhuru to become Deputy President in the 2013 General Elections.
On 4th March 2013, he was elected Deputy President alongside President Uhuru Kenyatta. They won and later formed the Jubilee Party.
He graduated on December 2018 from the University of Nairobi attaining a PhdD in Botany and Zoology.
Ruto and his camp have mostly visited parts Western launching projects. He is anticipated to pick a Deputy from the larger Luhya community.
