Luos are known to give credit where its due and acknowledge the good deeds done by their fore fathers and leaders.
Here are the most respected leaders in the region, whose respect was earned as a result of their positive contribution to the community.
1. Ramogi Ajwang'
He is considered the founding father of the Luo of Kenya and is credited for having led the community into the nation from the neighbouring Uganda long time ago.
He settled in Siaya county, from where Luos spread to the remaining parts of Nyanza.
He is granted massive respect, with all members of the Luo community identifying with him, hence the reason they call themselves 'Nyikwa Ramogi Ajwang' (Ramogi Ajwang' s grandchildren)
2. Jaramogi Oginga Odinga
The founding father and first Vice President of Kenya lived between 1911 and 1994, spending most of his time in the opposition after resigning from his post over ideological differences with President Jomo Kenyatta in 1966.
He is granted massive respect for making the Luos the political geniuses they currently are and is the father of current opposition leader and Luo Nyanza political don Raila Odinga.
3. Raila Odinga
He is the most respected and celebrated politician in Nyanza currently and among the most honoured leaders nationally.
He enjoys massive national support and a loyal backing of experienced and influential leaders.
Luos have nicknamed his 'Jakom' (Chairman) and 'Agwambo' to demonstrate his placement at the helm of Luo Nyanza political hierarchy and his impossible to understand political nature.
