A man who has been operating as a boda boda rider in Kerongorori, Kenyenya in Kisii County is fighting for his life in hospital after he was attacked by angry boda boda riders for allegedly being in possession of a stolen motorbike.
The victim Amos Magero was attacked on Saturday when he failed to explain where he bought the motorbike from.
"We found Magero with a motorbike whose colour he had changed, claiming it was his yet it was stolen from one of us. We demanded he produce the log book in vain. Riders descended on him with kicks and blows before he was rescued by police officers," said one of the riders Widen Makori.
Mr Makori said Magero was rude when asked where he bought the motorbike from.
Area police boss Isaac Thuranira said the victim was rushed to Kenyenya hospital where he recapturing.
"The suspect could be dead were it not for police officers who rescued him from the jaws of death," he said.
Mr Thuranira warned members of the public against taking the law into their hands.
"Crime suspects should be reported to police for legal actions to be taken against them but, not killing them," he added.
He assured that the victim once he recovers he will explain how he obtained the motorbike which the owner has since identified.
