Former Nairobi County gubernatorial seat candidate Peter Kenneth has come to the defense of President Uhuru Kenyatta over allegations that he has sidelined the Mt Kenya region when it comes to development.
Addressing the media with a couple of other leaders from the Mt Kenya region, Kenneth noted that the president and office should be respected by all Kenyans.
"We national leaders who hail from Mt Kenya region would like to put the record straight on a number of salient issues raised in this pointless political discourse.
"We demand respect for the president and the presidency. We demand respect for the president as head of government, head of state and symbol of the national individual," he stated.
Kenneth acknowledged that everyone has a right of opinion and expression, but underscored that the same should be done with decorum.
"Individuals with divergent views must criticize or correct the president with decorum and respect.
"It is of paramount importance for individuals seeking the presidency now in the future to uphold respect for the office and the desire to occupy it in future," he said.
He noted that since the Head of State came to power in 2013, he has been working tirelessly to make the lives of Kenyans better.
"On the president's legacy projects, from the time he got to the office in 2013, President Kenyatta has committed himself doing everything in his power to better the lives of Kenyans in all possible ways. It is for this reason that the president came up with the legacy projects as captured in the big four agenda.
"These are issues the country should be focused on and not pointless succession politics," he opined.
The remarks come hot on heels of claims by a section of central Kenya leaders that the president has sidelined the region in matters development.
