The National Assembly has thrown out a proposal to have the presidential age limit capped at 70 years.
The National Assembly’s Justice and Legal Affairs Committee chaired by Baringo North MP William Cheptumo said the proposal falls below any merit and would be a discriminatory move to adopt it.
The proposal had been put before parliament by a Mr Mohammed Sheikh who wanted amendments done to the Constitution to bar those above 70 years from running for the presidency.
Although Leader of Majority in the National Assembly Aden Duale had said the proposal would not be adopted, Oppositions MPs led by John Mbadi saw it as a target to their party leader Raila Odinga.
Raila will be 77 years in 2022 when he is expected to run again for the top seat.
