Mt Kenya region is angry at President Uhuru Kenyatta for allegedly neglecting the region after winning a second term in office.
Though no one is willing to come out publicly and express the disgruntled voices, there is a quiet rebellion simmering in the region.
A tipsy Moses Kuria on New Year Eve, however, let the cat out of the basket when he went hammer and tongs on Uhuru.
In a rare move, Kuria told off the region’s political supremo for ‘taking development to other regions at the expense of Mt Kenya despite the region having voted for Jubilee overwhelmingly in 2013.
“We want the President to also commission water projects, roads and electricity when he comes here. We were with him in Kisumu where he commissioned a road project, but when he visits (Kiambu) he only issues certificates to recovering alcoholics,” Kuria said.
He added: “We must stop being used only as voters.”
According to several sources who spoke to Daily Nation, many leaders in the region, as well as voters, are unhappy with how Uhuru is treating the Mt Kenya vote block.
“He is mistreating the people who stood with him. Mt Kenya and the Rift Valley stood with him in 2013 and 2017, but now he is telling us that Raila is more important than everybody else,” an MP from Central said.
Two governors and a senator from the region also expressed concerns over Uhuru’s ‘new trend’.
“He has a new trend where he is forgetting about those who stood with him under thick and thin. We are not happy also with his quietness when his people like Murathe are attacking the Deputy President,” the governor said.
