Veteran Kiambu politician Lawrence Nginyo Kariuki now wants Jubilee Party 'rebel' members punished for allegedly disrespecting President Uhuru Kenyatta.
In an apparent reference to Team Tanga tanga, Nginyo accused the politicians, who are allied to Deputy President William Ruto, of dishonouring the Head of State by fighting his initiatives.
He quoted the purge on graft and his March 9, 2018, peace deal with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga as some of the president’s initiatives which have received backlash from Ruto's camp.
Nginyo, the founder member of Uhuru's defunct The National Alliance (TNA), asked Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju to take harsh disciplinary action against the errant members.
“When an elected member from the Jubilee Party rubbishes the fight against graft and the handshake which are being spearheaded by the President who is the party boss, they are directly fighting him," he said on Tuesday.
"It is time the party comes out and disciplines members, especially the elected leaders as it appears there is no control as far as party loyalty is concerned,” Nginyo added.
The politician, who has been ailing for sometime now, was speaking when he hosted Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi at his home in Tigoni, Limuru Constituency.
Nginyo asked leaders from Central Kenya who have deserted Uhuru to 'come back' and rally behind him as the region's political kingpin.
