Shukran Gure got into the books of history when she was elected the first ever Woman Representative for Garissa county.
While serving her first term, Gure proved to be a highly influential female politician not only in the patriarchal Noth Eastern region but even beyond.
However, after losing in party nominations prior to the 2017 elections, Gure took a low profile leaving many guessing on her whereabouts.
What is more worrying to her supporters is her silence even as 2022 politics slowly take shape.
During her tenure, the former Wiper party affiliate politician took pride in empowering women and young girls in Garissa county through education.
In one of her last public appearances in January 2017, Gure promised her supporters that she would make a rejuvenated political comeback in 2022, claiming that she had several unfinished businesses in empowering the younger generation.
According to local political pundits in Garissa, the former Woman Rep still has a chance of making a surprise come back in 2022. However, this largely depends on how the incumbent MP delivers.
“Shukran Gure can afford a surprise comeback in the next elections. She has proved that she can deliver. However, this depends on the incumbent's track record,” reveals Peter Ngure, a political analyst.
