Former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama has several times been caught in political and even social controversies.
On October 15, 2014, Muthama’s ex-wife Agnes Kavindu publicly accused the former senator of being irresponsible and heartless.
In a video that went viral, Kavindu claimed that Muthama had neglected and even denied her basics rights.
She said Muthama had instructed guards at their Machakos home not to let her and her friends in.
Kavindu even claimed that the vibrant politician had denied her conjugal rights and was seeking "services" elsewhere.
She accused Muthama of ordering the disconnection of water and electricity to her home.
Kavindu accused Muthama of threatening to kill her.
In the viral video, Kavindu broke down to tears as she answered questions from journalists and lawyers who had visited her home.
The former senator, however, rubbished Kavindu’s claims terming them malicious.
Muthama has insisted that she is no longer married to Kavindu.
On the other hand, Kavindu insists that she is still married to the flamboyant and wealthy former Machakos senator.
In 2017, Kavindu unsuccessfully contested for the Machakos Woman Representative seat.
