Speaking during the Easter Celebrations in Kakamega on Saturday, he stressed on the need for other denominations to help uphold the rightful purpose of the church.

He found it wrong that the politicians use each and every opportunity they find to attack each other, which is wrong, considering that churches are places of peace.

“They use the platform to hit at each other what amount to abusing holy temple. This should be stopped for the purposes of Christ," he said, according to the Standard.

He noted that the political class has been using churches' shortages to drive their point home, by taking advantage of fundraiser invitations to turn pulpits into rally podiums.

Bishop Obanyi called upon lawmakers to help in realizing the same by introducing bills and regulations to help curb the sprouting of churches formed with wrong intentions.

“That bill may not give a lasting solution but what must be done is to mark those churches sprouting up every day with bad intentions for regulation," he added.

He also wants the government to take stern measures against priests and preachers who are out to enrich themselves in the name of spreading the gospel.
